Self-Taken: Baby in the Belly Session -- Me & Baby 3

Obviously pictures hold a special place in my heart.

The hard thing about enjoying photography and take pictures for friends and family is that I see how much joy it brings to the people I care about. I see how much they love their photos and it makes me want special photos of my little family too. This is especially true during times of pregnancy and new babies. Such short and special seasons of life. I cherish these times and I'm so so thankful we were able to pay for our own photography session when our second baby was born. I've gone back and forth on whether we should pay for Maternity and Newborn photos but ultimately at around $600-$700 per session for about 30 digital images I just can't do it this time.

So what's a girl to do?

Make friends with a tripod and anyone that is willing to push a button!

I have taken lots most of my family's own photos and I always go into each  "session" knowing that the pictures will not be perfect or as creative or "artistic" as if I were to pay a photographer. Being the "photographer" as well the subject isn't the easiest task so ultimately I've learned to take what I get and be happy with it all.

Here are some self-take and assisted sessions we've tackled before:

My Family Session

Big Seidl Family Photo Session

Chris knew how badly I wanted some maternity photos so we all suited up and gave it a shot!

I'm so pleased some turned out, such a grace.

  1. Amanda and family,
I love the maternity photos and the family photos. The grin on Liam's face just cracks me up. I hear he is quite a handful at the moment ~ that's the exchange for the big grin! And Brighton is becoming such a boy ~ his tender, sweet smile and serious facial expressions are just adorable. I really respect you and Chris so much and how well you are raising these two, soon to be three, Kowal beings! xoxo thank you for sharing!
